SkySpecs help their customers with long-term renewable asset management. Specifically they have a team of highly experienced drone pilots who are able to carry out comprehensive surveys of wind farm equipment in a variety of remote locations. An engineer (or pilot) will typically visit a location and use their drone to inspect the blades and other components of complex turbines.

The Problem

SkySpecs faced inefficiencies and inaccuracies with manual data collection during wind farm equipment inspections. Challenges in coordinating remote operations and communication also impacted service quality and response times, underscoring the need for a streamlined digital solution.

The V88 Solution

Our solution for SkySpecs comprises two applications.

  • Over 100 SkySpecs pilots run a mobile app on their devices. They capture information in a structured format and submit this for central review. They also use the mobile app as a knowledge base and a tool to report equipment issues.
  • The SkySpecs admin team utilise a secure web portal back at base. They review information captured by the pilots and report back to clients. They also service pilot requests for additional resources or replacement parts.

Both applications were built using the Glide Platform.

Immediate Wins

The solution has transformed several key areas of SkySpecs’ business.

Pilots are now able to:
  • Quickly and easily capture information from site in a structured format using a device of their choice. As a result inspections are quicker and more accurate.
  • Review an inventory of components for their operational equipment and simply flag those that are missing or need replacement. For such complex machinery this can save significant time and money.
  • Find answers to queries by searching operating processes, including videos and custom checklists.
  • Raise a safety alert (with their location) if they find themselves in a compromised scenario where they need immediate assistance from SkySpecs HQ.
The Admin Team are now able to:
  • Review inspection results, highlight trends and generate reports.
  • Ensure that pilots receive missing or replacement components as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise down time.
  • Keep pilots up to date with the latest briefings and expand their knowledge of best practices and operational equipment.
  • Response immediately and with precision to pilots in situations that might be dangerous or unpredictable.
